President John Dramani Mahama has announced that his government will begin the distribution of free sanitary pads to female students from March 2025 as part of efforts to reduce absenteeism among schoolgirls.

Speaking during his State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2025, Mahama outlined the initiative, which will benefit girls from Primary 5 to Senior High School (SHS). "To reduce absenteeism, free sanitary pads will be provided to female students from Primary 5 to SHS starting March 2025," he stated.

Under the policy, Primary to Junior High School (JHS) students will receive seven packs per term, while SHS students will be given seven packs per semester.

The initiative aims to address period poverty, ensuring that no girl misses school due to a lack of menstrual hygiene products.
