Government intends to operationalize the Komenda Sugar Factory soon with the aim of providing about 7,500 jobs.

According to the Minister for Trade, Industry and Agribusiness, Elizabeth Ofosu Adjare, who paid a visit to the factory to assess its current state and obtain firsthand information on matters that are hindering the progress of the factory, government has a special interest in ensuring that the factory resumes its sugar production from sugarcane grown locally. "We'll start planting sugarcane, crashing it and making sugar from here," she announced on February 26.

The Minister also expressed disappointment in the current state of the factory. "This is a huge factory that has been allowed to run down, unfortunately.

And this is this nation's asset, and we really want to bring it up to work," Mrs Adjare assured.
