Deputy Minister-designate for Lands and Natural Resources, Yusif Sulemana has assured that illegal miners will be removed from water bodies across the country.
Appearing before the Appointments Committee on February 26, Yusif Sulemena decried the rate at which the country's water bodies are being negatively impacted by activities of illegal miners.
He stressed that protecting the country's water bodies should be a concern for all as it poses serious risks and dangers to human life. "This morning, my minister held a dialogue on small-scale mining and if you listened to challenges we are being confronted with when it comes to the way our water bodies are being destroyed, you will weep. "It's a national issue and I think that I will help my minister like he has started doing to flash our all those on our water bodies," he stated.
Officers of the Western Regional Police Command have seized 10 excavators and arrested key illegal mining kingpins including Chinese nationals in Abelebo and Akango in the Evalue Ajomoro-Gwira District.
