A dead male body has been discovered floating on the Volta River at Atimpoku in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region.
David Brown, the Asuogyaman District NADMO Director told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that an immigration officer on duty at the Adomi bridge noticed the decomposing body floating on the river and alerted authorities.
He said the body was recovered from the lake after a coordinated effort comprising the District Police Commander, Environmental Health Officers, NADMO, and local divers.
He said most of the time, when they discover such situations, they ask for a coroner's form from the Senchi Magistrate Court to bury the corpse, but in this case, they have opted to thoroughly investigate to determine the cause of the death, so the body has been sent to the Accra police hospital for investigation and identification. "Since Asuogyaman is a site where a lot of leisure and tourism activities occur, I think the man may have drowned during the Valentine's Day celebration," he said.
