Collins Owusu Amankwah has strongly condemned the recent arrest of Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), describing it as an unjustified act of political intimidation.

Appearing on UTV, the former Manhyia North MP expressed his outrage, arguing that it was inappropriate and disrespectful for someone of Ameyaw-Akumfi's stature and age to be detained in such a manner. "I find it highly unacceptable that a distinguished personality like Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi would be arrested without a warrant," he said. "At his age and with his record of service, this treatment is both unfair and disgraceful." He went further to reveal that during his detention, the professor was allegedly denied access to his medication, an act he deemed inhumane.

According to him, the charges against Ameyaw-Akumfi were not even clearly communicated from the outset, raising serious concerns about the process.

Amankwah did not hold back in accusing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of increasingly using state security forces to suppress their political opponents. "If I were in his position, I would have resisted any invitation from the NIB," he declared, insisting that the arrest was politically motivated.
