The Convener of the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, Kenneth Ashigbey, has called on the Attorney General, Dominic Ayine, to demonstrate the same urgency in tackling illegal mining as he has in dropping charges against individuals since assuming office.
According to Ashigbey, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has shown an alarming delay in addressing the galamsey crisis, despite earlier commitments to clamp down on illegal mining activities.
He criticised the government's slow pace in implementing necessary legal reforms and urged the Attorney General to prioritise the repeal of Legislative Instrument (L.I) 2462, which currently permits mining in forest reserves.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Citi FM, Ashigbey expressed frustration over the seeming inaction by government officials, particularly the Attorney General, in tackling the galamsey menace.
