The ministry of Interior has renewed the curfew hours on Walewale and environs from 6:00 am to 6:00pm upon advice from the North East Regional Security Council.

The curfew was imposed on the area following the surged cases of gun attacks on passengers and burning of buses in the Walewale-Wulugu enclave of the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway.

Between 11th February, 2025 to 15th February, 2025, about 13 travellers including an infant were killed with three buses burnt to ashes in those areas prompting the ministry of Interior to impose a curfew.

Though the curfew hours imposed on the area was resisted by residents of the area citing military brutalities among others, the minister for interior has renewed the curfew hours to the same time effective 22nd February, 2025 pending another week. "Government calls on the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace. "Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in Walewale and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted, a statement issued by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak said.
