Residents of Agortime Kpetoe in the Agortime-Ziope District of the Volta Region are facing potential water scarcity following a reported contamination of the Tordze River, their primary water source.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, when a truck transporting agrochemicals overturned near Tove in the Republic of Togo, leading to a spill into the river.
In response, the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) issued a press release cautioning communities along the Tordze River to refrain from using its water for drinking, fishing, irrigation, or washing until comprehensive safety assessments are completed.
The VRCC emphasized the necessity of evaluating the contamination levels before deeming the water safe for any human activities.
