Ghanaian businessman and economic policy analyst Senyo Hosi has proposed new measures to curb government spending on travel for public officials.
According to him, government officials travelling on short-distance flights should be restricted to economy class to reduce unnecessary expenses and promote responsible use of public funds. "You can't be flying from here to Nigeria, which is just 45 minutes, in business class.
Why should a minister pay $1,000 for a one-hour flight when the same trip costs $300?" he questioned on TV3's Key Points programme on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
His proposal comes amid ongoing discussions on implementing austerity measures within the government to cut down on excessive spending.
