The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has applauded the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh for assuring members that government will not dismiss any of those who were recruited after the elections.
Perpetual Ofori Ampofo who spoke with our labour affairs correspondent, Daniel Opoku, in reaction to the directive from the Chief of Staff said, due to the intervention of the Mr Akandoh, their intention to embark on strike has been suspended.
Earlier, Mr Akandoh stated government's commitment not to dismiss the post December 7 recruited nurses and midwives when he was addressing the African Nurses and Midwives Conference in Accra on February 20. "The Ministry of Health, including the Ghana Health Service and Catholic Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) have not terminated the employment of any health worker, we are committed to building and sustaining health work force," he assured.
The President of the GRNMA said she is elated about government's decision not to dismiss any health worker. "I think as a honorable Minister, he took to the floor of Parliament and made certain statements, and today has taken the opportunity offered by our African Nurses and Midwives Conference to reiterate what he said in Parliament, so why is he not going to stick by it?" she quizzed.
