Former Auditor General, Daniel Domelevo, has said that although President John Dramani Mahama has satisfied the requirement to declare his assets, he could have asked the Auditor General to publish the assets that he had prior to assuming office.
In the view of Mr Domelevo, the publication of the assets would have changed the paradigm relative to asset declaration.
He observes that President Mahama missed the opportunity to change the narrative. "The President missed an opportunity to change the paradigm to say that I am not required by law to declare it publicly but Auditor General, publish what I have declared for everybody to see what I have before coming into the office, and maybe even call upon his appointees that we believe in transparency so publish what you are also going to declare. "I think that would have taken us a notch higher than where we are.
But here, he tried to comply with the law," he told Joy FM.
