Labour Consultant Austin Gamey has expressed concerns over the government's 10% salary increase for public sector workers, warning that the adjustment could worsen inflation and place further strain on the economy.

In an interview with Citi News, Gamey argued that while salary increases are essential, the public sector's response to such adjustments does not match that of the private sector. "I would have preferred it lower because even a 1% adjustment on the public sector wage takes us to another inflationary bracket, and that comes back to bite all of us, including them," he stated.

His remarks follow the government's official approval of the 10% salary increment, which came after negotiations between Organized Labour and President John Dramani Mahama.

The President personally engaged with union leaders to reach an agreement, emphasizing that the increase was necessary to cushion workers amid economic hardships.
