The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission has refuted claims that it forecasted violence during Ghana's 2024 general elections based on its recent Pre-Election Fact-Finding Mission. The Herald Newspaper published an article on August 21, 2024, alleging that it had obtained a 'draft statement' from the ECOWAS Mission, which supposedly predicted electoral violence. In response, ECOWAS issued an official statement clarifying that its pre-election missions do not publicly disclose their findings. These reports are confidential and intended only for the President of the Commission to facilitate discussions with member states. ECOWAS emphasized that it never predicted violence in Ghana's electoral process, calling The Herald's report a gross misrepresentation of the Mission's procedures and findings.
"To educate The Herold, ECOWAS pre-electoral Missions do not issue statements on their findings.
