President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has ordered the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) to conduct an immediate investigation into the operations of the National Service Authority under the previous government following a discovery of up to 81,885 suspected ghost names on the payroll of the Authority.

A statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu said the ghost names were found following a head count of National Service personnel by the Finance Minister as a prerequisite for the clearance of allowance arrears dating back to August 2024.

The current administration has been asked to institute measures and reforms to ensure that such occurrence of ghost names does not happen in the future.

Meanwhile, the Finance Minister has released an amount of GHC 226,019,224 to pay arrears owed service personnel.
