The Member of Parliament of Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has strongly opposed the appointment of Dr.
Johnson Asiama as the new Governor, indicating his alleged involvement in the collapse of several banking institutions, which led to the banking sector cleanup.
Speaking on Lawson TV on Monday, February 10, 2025, Baffour Awuah claimed that Dr.
Asiamah, who previously served as the Second Deputy Governor of the from 2016 to 2017, was responsible for supervising banking institutions to ensure they adhered to financial regulations and complied with the law, as well as monitoring potential financial risks to people's investments.
