Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has revealed that 156 Ghanaians face imminent deportation from the United States.

He says this is the official figure they are working with, at the moment.

Speaking on the KeyPoints on TV3 on Saturday, February 8, he said: "156 facing imminent deportation from the US." He further revealed that the deportation exercise by the US government "raises the bigger issue of how we protect the welfare of Ghanaians." To that end, he said, "we are going to see new paradigms in terms of consular assistance." He further urged Ghanaians living abroad "to get closer to the embassies, get registered and then we can really take care of them." President Donald Trump has made the mass deportation of undocumented foreign nationals a key policy.

The US is said to have identified about 18,000 Indian nationals it believes entered illegally.
