United Nations Special Representative for Libya and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Hannah Serwaa Tetteh has described recent chaos in Parliament as dishonorable of elected representatives of the people.

Speaking to Johnnie Hughes in an interview on 3FM's morning show on February 7, the diplomat argued that Parliamentarians need to understand the importance of maintaining decorum to foster respectful debate. "They must uphold the dignity of the institution, and effectively serve the interests of their constituents," she advised.

She urged members of the house "to learn to understand themselves amicably rather than resorting to violence and unparliamentary use of words on each other." The Parliament of Ghana has recently come under strong condemnation following a conflict that erupted and led to physical altercations among MPs.

Reports indicate that the disorder escalated to the point where tables and microphones were damaged, and some MPs nearly engaged in fisticuffs.
