A Vice President of Policy Think Tank, Kofi Bentil, is of the view that if governments will use the CEO positions to reward faithful, there is no need for boards.
He is of the view that the boards of the various state agencies are white elephants because they do not influence any decision-making in the various SOEs.
In a post making his opinion known, Kofi Bentil was of the view that if the country is looking at making SOEs viable then there will need to be drastic changes in the handling of these agencies and who is selected to lead.
Kofi Bentil thinks that competence and not dedication to political parties should be the benchmark for appointing CEOs who will be left to make decisions that will allow for the SOEs to be viable. "If governments will simply use CEO positions to reward faithfuls, and make all important decisions, then Boards of SOEs are pointless and must be disbanded!
