Kumasi Mayor Samuel Pyne urges urgent action for Baba Yara Stadium ahead of AFCON qualifier

Mr. Samuel Pyne, Mayor of Kumasi, has expressed his displeasure with the state of the pitch at the Baba Yara Stadium. The Baba Yara Sports Stadium, which has recently served as the only venue for Black Stars international matches, is expected to host Ghana's 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola on September 5, 2025. Current pictures of the pitch after a five-day church program have raised some concerns, with GFA club licensing board manager Esme Mends stating that the pitch is not yet ready for use.
"I regret to inform you that Baba Yara is not prepared to host a competitive game if there is to be any major activity." told by Esme Mends in an interview with LUV FM
