The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has announced plans to establish a dedicated Sports Policing Unit to enhance safety and security at football matches.

This initiative comes in response to the recent violent incident at the Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko, which resulted in the tragic death of Yaw Frimpong.

During a closed-door meeting with club representatives, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo-Dampare outlined measures to prevent similar occurrences.

The Sports Policing Unit will engage supporter groups, ensure the presence of trained security personnel at matches, and strengthen intelligence operations.
