The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Yayra Koku, has hinted at plans to enhance the functionality of the Ghana Card by integrating it with Mobile Money (MoMo) and bank accounts, as well as using it as a replacement for drivers' licenses in the country.

He shared this in a post on his X account on Thursday, February 6, 2025, noting that the initiative would bring significant benefits. "Imagine linking your Ghana Card to your MoMo and bank accounts so you can pay for goods and services without knowing the vendor's phone number or MoMo details. "Imagine your card goes missing, but you simply walk into a booth, pay, provide your fingerprint, and your replacement card is printed on the spot without having to visit the NIA office and wait in a long queue.

Imagine using your Ghana Card as your driver's license, eliminating the need to visit the DVLA for fingerprints just present your card, and the integrated system will handle the rest," he noted.

He also emphasised the convenience of applying for passports using the Ghana Card. "Consider applying for a passport from the comfort of your home with your Ghana Card, then walking in to collect it or having it delivered via GhanaPost. "Envision booking your Ghana Card appointment online, bypassing long queues, and completing the process from the comfort of your home.
