Gas supply to thermal plants in Tema from Nigeria, along with gas transportation via reverse flow from Takoradi to Tema, will be curtailed.

This is contained in a joint statement from the Ghana Grid Company Ltd. (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) as they announce that the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) has commenced maintenance works on the gas pipeline transporting natural gas from Nigeria to Ghana.

The maintenance is scheduled to take place from February 5 to March 2, 2025.

According to a statement issued by WAPCo, the planned works will involve cleaning the pipeline, a process known as "pigging," as well as the replacement of some sub-sea equipment. "This temporary suspension of gas supply will force thermal plants in Tema to shut down due to the unavailability of gas," the statement noted.
