The Bank of Ghana has announced that Dr Maxwell Opoku-Afari, the First Deputy Governor, will proceed on leave effective February 5, 2025, prior to the completion of his tenure.

This decision has been approved by President John Mahama.

Dr Opoku-Afari was first appointed as First Deputy Governor on August 7, 2017, and was reappointed for a second term on August 7, 2021.

Under the Bank of Ghana Act, 2002 (Act 612), as amended, his tenure is set to officially conclude on August 6, 2025, marking the end of his two-term limit as stipulated by the law.
