Dr. Marian Okoh-Owusu Inconsistent supply of iron and folate supplements, misconceptions, and cultural beliefs remain challenges confronting the school-based iron and folic acid (IFA) supplementation programme in Ghana. Despite the challenges the program has achieved a reduction in the prevalence of anemia among girls from 48% in 2014 to 44% in 2022. Adolescence is a critical period of growth, and good health and nutrition are essential for development. However, in Ghana, many adolescents face malnutrition, which leads to stunting, poor health, unintended pregnancies and anemia which compromise their education and future.
