Organised labour has proposed a constitutional amendment for a union government. According to labour, the union government will foster political stability and economic growth. A leader of organised labour, Isaac Bampoe Addo said this when he addressed the 12th Quadrennial Conference at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region. Organised labour through its leadership is concerned about the current state of democracy in the country. It also raised issues about excessive powers in the hands of the president to appoint members of boards and Chief Executive Officers of government agencies.
"In assessing the benefits or otherwise of our current democratic dispensation, account should be taken of the following, namely, the voluntary spirit that is waning, patriotism and selflessness as against ethnocentrism, national cohesion vis a vis ethnocentric governance".
"Corruption in all forms and indiscipline that has destroyed the fabric of our society, is it not time to consider introducing partnership in the structure of governance in Ghana?
