President Akufo-Addo has described as unnecessary the controversy surrounding the decision to sell some of SSNIT's interests in some hotels to Rock City Hotels, owned by his Agriculture Minister, Bryan Acheampong. The move sparked significant backlash, notably from North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and organized labour, who viewed it as a distress sale to a government appointee. This led to a nationwide protest and calls for a shake-up of SSNIT's board representatives. During the 12th Quadrennial Delegates Congress of the Trades Union Congress, President Akufo-Addo dismissed the controversy as unnecessary, emphasizing that SSNIT's strong financial performance, including a profit of over GHȼ230 million in 2023, contradicts claims of mismanagement. Despite organised labour protests forcing SSNIT to halt the sale, President Akufo-Addo speaking at the 12th quadrennial delegates conference of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) urged Ghanaians to be guided in the pronouncement regarding SSNIT assets.
