Counsel for Oliver Barker-Vormawor, Nana Ato Dadzie, has informed members of the Appointments Committee of that a post made by his client, alleging ongoing corrupt practices by the committee members, was intended to highlight what he believes to be wrongdoing.
Appearing before the 11-member committee on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, following a summons, Nana Ato Dadzie described Barker-Vormawor's bribery allegations, where he accused committee members of accepting bribes from ministerial nominees to expedite their approval, as an 'act of whistleblowing.' He explained that his client intended to uncover and shed light on matters he had been informed about, where certain members of the committee were allegedly receiving bribes. "It was completely not directed at the Appointments Committee.
It was only intended to expose certain matters that had come to his notice which alleged some people were apparently on the banner of the Appointments Committee, doing other acts," he said.
Ato Dadzie further argued that Barker-Vormawor, a lawyer and social activist was simply fulfilling his civic duty by attempting to expose individuals involved in corrupt practices, emphasising that the bribery claims were not specifically directed at or meant to implicate the committee members. "Our point was trying to find out who was asking them to pay monies to the committee.
