The Defence Minister-designate, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has stated that but for the good nature of President John Dramani Mahama, the name of the seat of government would have been changed from Jubilee House to its original Flagstaff House.
According to him, this decision reflects the President's commitment to fostering national unity and continuity in governance.
Speaking during his vetting by the Appointment Committee of Parliament on Tuesday, 28 January, Dr Omane Boamah commended President Mahama for resisting the urge to revert to "Flagstaff House." "It is by the good nature of President Mahama that he hasn't changed the name from Jubilee House to Flagstaff House," he remarked in response to a question by Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
He emphasised that such restraint demonstrates a focus on more pressing issues rather than engaging in symbolic controversies.
