Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has expressed surprise at the scale of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) victory in the 2024 general elections.
President John Dramani Mahama of the NDC secured a resounding win with over six million votes, while the party captured 187 seats in Parliament.
In an interview on The Point of View on Channel One TV on Monday, January 27, Ayariga admitted that while the NDC anticipated victory, the magnitude of their success in both the presidential and parliamentary races exceeded expectations. "Yes, we expected to win, but we were surprised that the margin was that significant," Ayariga remarked. "We knew that people were really dissatisfied with the performance of the NPP as government, and then also we knew that people wanted the NDC, but we didn't expect to actually win the number of seats that we won. "In the constituencies that we won, the margins that each MP won with were very significant, and so that to some extent surprised us," he added.
