Residents of Salakope, Agavedzi and surrounding communities in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region, are counting their losses after series of new tidal waves destroy their belongings.
The tidal waves distraction, which started on Thursday, January 16, has destroyed properties such as dwellings, fishing nets, canoes and other personal belongings in the area.
Mr Eben Asar, the Head of Assessment Members of the Salakope Electoral Area, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said over 100 residents were currently displaced by the new tidal waves. "The tidal waves distraction started graduation on the 16th of this month, and as I am talking to you now, many other houses along the coast have been washed away and we are calling on the authorities to urgently help us," he said.
He explained that the sea water had presently entered the houses of most people, and it could likely cross and cut-off the Keta-Aflao main road to enter the lagoon at the opposite side of the community, and the situation needed urgent attention.
