The Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Manifesto Committee, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has commended the party's flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, for his proposed measures for the mining sector. During the launch of the NPP's manifesto, on Sunday, August 18, in Takoradi, Dr Bawumia outlined five key measures he would undertake in the mining sector if elected president in the December polls. In an interview on The Point of View on Channel One TV, the former Information Minister described Dr Bawumia's proposition to curb reckless mining as "strong". He acknowledged that the current approach to fighting illegal mining, commonly referred to as "Galamsey", has failed to yield results, suggesting that a new approach is needed. Oppong Nkrumah noted that Dr Bawumia has professed methods to ensure responsible mining, urging Ghanaians to vote for him to bring about positive change in the mining sector. "I don't think anybody will contest the kind of efforts that were made by this administration to combat "Galamsey".
