The Minister-Designate for Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has raised concerns about the inadequate budget allocated for feeding prisoners in Ghana, emphasising the importance of ensuring proper nutrition for inmates.

Speaking during his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 24, Muntaka highlighted the pressing need to improve the welfare of prisoners.

He noted that the current feeding allocation is insufficient, making it challenging to provide adequate nutrition and maintain the health of incarcerated individuals.

He said it's impossible to prevent the spread of diseases among prisoners if their nutritional needs are not met, urging the government to prioritise the Ghana Prison Service, given its significant role in national development.
