Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Minister-Designate for the Ministry of The Interior, has emphasised the urgent need to retool the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to enhance its capacity to respond effectively to fire emergencies.
Speaking during his vetting by Parliament's Appointments Committee, Muntaka highlighted the challenges faced by the GNFS due to outdated and inadequate equipment.
He noted the frustration that arises during fire emergencies, leading to public backlash against fire personnel.
The nominee assured the Committee that, if approved, he would prioritise the retooling of the GNFS to ensure they are adequately equipped to protect lives and property. "In the briefing, I realised that the government has not been able to procure fire tenders since 2015.
