The Minister-Designate for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has strongly advocated for the mandatory use of body cameras by police officers across Ghana as part of efforts to combat rising concerns over police misconduct, including extortion and brutality.
During his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Friday, January 24, Muntaka emphasised that implementing body cameras would bolster accountability and help restore public trust in the Ghana Police Service.
He pointed to the increasing public outcry against police brutality and extortion, acknowledging that such incidents have significantly eroded confidence in the nation's law enforcement agencies.
To address this, Muntaka proposed a policy mandating that all police officers wear and activate body cameras when performing their duties.
