The Volta Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has received a total of 283 applications for the position of Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) for 18 assemblies of the Volta Region.

Initially, 287 applied for the positions, but four of them had written to the Regional office of the party in Ho, indicating their decision to withdraw from the race, leaving 283 contestants.

The Acting Volta Regional Secretary of the NDC, Mr Bright Kwashie Ege, who made this known to the Ghanaian Times in Ho on Monday, said the number of applicants for the MDCEs position in the region was highest since the inception of the fourth republic.

He announced that out of the 287 applicants, North Tongu District recorded the highest number of 40 applicants and the Akatsi-North District recorded the lowest of four applicants.
