Pressure group Elections Watch Ghana has described as bold the initiative by President John Dramani Mahama to establish the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee.

The committee, led by Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, is to recover looted state funds and assets from past public office holders.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, January 22, Election Watch Ghana expressed confidence that "this operation will not only restore the nation's wealth but also serve as a deterrent to potential corrupt officials".

The group took issues with critics, particularly the Minority in Parliament, for their criticism of the committee. "Their constant attacks and attempts to undermine the operation's credibility only serve to expose their own fears and guilt," the statement, jointly signed by convenors Mark Ewusi Arkoh and Jude Balma, said. "We urge the minority to cooperate with ORAL and recognize the value of this operation in promoting transparency and accountability.
