Minister-Designate for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Emelia Arthur has highlighted her commitment to integrating scientific and indigenous knowledge to strengthen the fisheries sector.
Speaking during her vetting before Parliament's Appointments Committee on Wednesday, January 23, she posited that the fisheries sector will see an increase in production under her leadership as the knowledge of indigenes in the fishing communities will be merged with scientific knowledge to run the sector.
According to the Shama MP, indigenous knowledge plays a crucial role in securing a sustainable future in the sector.
Arthur further pledged to ensure the effective operationalisation of the Anomabo Fisheries College. "That by the Grace of God and the support of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, I Emelia Arthur was the Fisheries Minister under whose regime fisheries production went up and that indigenous knowledge was respected and integrated with scientific knowledge in improving fisheries in this country. "That also, it was under me that the long-awaited Fisheries College that we started in 2013 in Anomabo became operational.
