Dortmund have parted ways with head coach Nuri Sahin following a 2-1 defeat to Bologna in the Champions League.
The loss marked their fourth consecutive defeat across all competitions since the winter break.
Tuesday's result was Dortmund's third loss in the Champions League group stage, leaving last season's runners-up needing a win against Shakhtar Donetsk in their final group game to secure automatic qualification for the knockout phase.
Domestically, Dortmund's poor start to 2025 has seen them suffer three straight Bundesliga defeats, dropping to 10th place in the league, seven points off the top four.
