In his vetting session on January 20, 2025, Haruna Iddrisu, Ghana's Education Minister-Designate, shed light on his political journey, the challenges of transitioning from the minority leader to a ministerial role, and how he has managed to work effectively with various political factions.
Reflecting on a pivotal moment in his career, Iddrisu shared an incident where he was en route to Joy FM for an interview when President John Dramani Mahama reached out to discuss an important matter. "I remained calm upon hearing about the reshuffle within the minority," Iddrisu revealed, "and I found encouragement in the fact that President Nana Akufo-Addo acknowledged my competence as an opposition leader." As the minority leader for several years, Iddrisu was able to establish a strong rapport with his colleagues, some of whom had held similar positions, as well as members of the opposition party.
Despite the political divide, his focus remained clear. "My focus was always on objectives aimed at advancing the nation, not engaging in partisan politics," he stated.
During his tenure, Iddrisu navigated a series of political dynamics, working alongside his NPP counterparts.
