The Minister-Designate for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has stated that approximately GH₵345 million is needed to fully implement the Mahama government's proposed first-year free tuition policy for tertiary institutions.
Speaking during his vetting by the Appointments Committee in Parliament on January 20, 2025, Haruna Iddrisu emphasized the policy's potential to make tertiary education more accessible to a large number of students nationwide.
He highlighted that funds allocated to run the policy would cover tuition for freshers, ensuring equitable access to higher education in the country.
According to the Tamale South MP, the government intends to channel the required funds directly to the beneficiary universities.
