President John Dramani Mahama has called on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to lend his influence and diplomacy to help Ghana navigate its current economic challenges.
The appeal was made during his visit to the Manhyia Palace to mark the first Akwasidae Festival of 2025, where the President praised the Asantehene's pivotal role in fostering economic growth during his earlier administration. "Our nation Ghana is facing a dire economic crisis.
While this is not the first time, this particular crisis is unprecedented, with high inflation, macroeconomic instability, a depreciating currency, and a debt default that has shut us out of the international credit market," Mahama stated during his address.
He recounted how the Asantehene's support during his 2013-2017 presidency helped overcome similar challenges. "I had the privilege of calling on you, and you didn't hesitate to use your influence to smoothen the path toward prosperity and progress.
