A violent clash between soldiers and illegal miners, known as "galamseyers," occurred at the AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine in Ghana's Ashanti Region on January 18, 2025.
The tragic incident resulted in at least 10 people losing their lives and one soldier being injured.
According to a statement signed by Brigadier General E.
Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations, the clash occurred around 11:00 pm when approximately 60 illegal miners breached the mine's security fence at Côte d'Or Ramp.
