President John Dramani Mahama has called for justice for the victims of the 2005 massacre in The Gambia.
This tragic event commonly referred to as 'the Gambia Massacre', saw approximately 56 West African migrants mostly Ghanaians killed by Gambian security forces under the orders of former President Yahya Jammeh.
During his first official visit to Gambia this weekend, Mr Mahama urged the international community to assist in compensating families of the victims and ensuring the perpetrators are brought to book. "We have been following the processes that have occurred with regards to truth and reconciliation and we think that the process will help to exorcise the pain that people have gone through in the period when things were not as democratic as they are currently. "We know that there are many other processes that need to be gone through including bringing people to justice for crimes that were committed in the period of President Jammeh.
Ghanaians were involved, as you know and some of our countrymen were killed." Ablekuma North: Constituents divided over solution to parliamentary election stalemate
