The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has taken note of the recent surge in acute respiratory infections, particularly those caused by the Human Metapneumovirus (hMPV), in China and the Northern Hemisphere.
Although hMPV is not a new virus, its symptoms can range from mild to severe, affecting individuals of all ages. "The observed increases in acute respiratory infections and associated pathogen detections in many countries in the Northern hemisphere in recent weeks is expected at this time of year and is not unusual." the GHS disclosed in a statement.
The Ghana Health Service has assured the public that it is taking necessary steps to safeguard the health of Ghanaians.
Measures include enhancing surveillance for acute respiratory diseases, expanding laboratory testing capabilities, and regular assessments of the situation in the Northern Hemisphere.
