Kwame A Plus, Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has outlined a strategic plan to establish an Independent Caucus in Ghana's Parliament, leveraging the revised Standing Orders that allow a caucus to be formed by at least seven Members of Parliament (MPs) sharing a common interest or affiliation.
According to A Plus, in a Facebook post sighted by Mynewsgh.com, this adjustment, which lowers the threshold for caucus formation, provides an opportunity for smaller groups, including independent MPs, to organise and represent their collective interests effectively within Parliament. "This change is aimed at fostering inclusivity and accommodating diverse political voices in Ghana's legislative process," he noted.
He expressed optimism about the potential for increasing independent representation in Parliament, projecting that by 2028, more than 10 independent candidates could secure seats if focused and committed efforts are maintained. "Once elected, we can establish an Independent Caucus with a leader, a Chief Whip, and other essential roles.
This is the foundation for creating a strong third force in Ghana's political landscape," he emphasised.
