President John Dramani Mahama is expected to meet with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on January 19, to discuss the ongoing tensions in Bawku and Walewale.

President Mahama made this known to the King and Overlord of the Mamprugu Kingdom, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga II, during a visit to the Nayiri Palace on Tuesday January 14, 2025.

The President expressed deep concern over the security situation in the Upper East and Northern regions, where violence has been recorded due to chieftaincy disputes between two ethnic factions, leading to loss of lives and destruction of property.

He also called for peace in the region and acknowledged that the Asantehene's guidance has played a crucial role in resolving past conflicts, hence the need for the engagement to help address the current tensions and bring about lasting peace. "Former president Nana Addo gave me a hint that the Otumfuo has been playing some role.
