The Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference has urged the government, led by former President John Dramani Mahama, to expedite the reintroduction and passage of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, popularly known as the anti-LGBTQ bill.

The Bishops believe this will align with the values and expectations of the Ghanaian people.

During a meeting with the Bishops on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, President Mahama proposed that the government should take the lead in sponsoring the bill rather than relying on the current Private Member's Bill.

According to him, a government-backed bill would allow for broader consultations and foster national consensus, increasing its chances of effective implementation. Most Reverend Matthew Gyamfi, President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, emphasized the importance of prioritizing the bill's passage.
