During a Presidential Dinner on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, President John Mahama made an important plea to supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), urging them to differentiate themselves from their political opponents, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), by rejecting violence and vandalism.

He began by reflecting on the political climate after the NPP's 2016 victory, where he believed the country's trust in the ruling party was betrayed. "Ghanaians punished the NPP for arrogance, incompetence, and for not listening to their cries and challenges," Mahama said.

He emphasized that the NPP's lack of responsiveness to the people's needs led to their downfall and that repeating those same mistakes would be counterproductive.

Mahama continued, recalling the events following his administration's loss in 2016.
