Hajia Samira Bawumia, the Second Lady of Ghana, has strongly rejected allegations by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is an Akan-dominated party, where only individuals of Akan descent are favoured for top positions, marginalising non-Akans, including Muslims. Speaking to NPP supporters at Effiakuma Zongo, also known as 'VIP', in Takoradi, Western Region, on Saturday, August 17, ahead of the party's Manifesto Launch, Hajia Samira countered these claims, pointing to her husband's rise within the party as evidence of its inclusive character. "The opposition NDC used to say that the NPP is a political party for only the Akans, but the party has shown that this is not true by electing Dr Bawumia as its flagbearer. "It is only under the NPP government that the country has seen Muslims becoming Vice Presidents and Insha Allah, come December 7, Dr Bawumia will be the next President," she prayed. She appealed to the Zongo communities to vote overwhelmingly for Dr Bawumia, citing his competence and visionary agenda to transform Ghana. With unwavering confidence in his leadership abilities, she also assured the nation that Dr. Bawumia's presidency would bring about significant improvements.
