The Institute for Energy Security (IES) has issued a critical warning about a looming power crisis, commonly known as 'dumsor,' and called on the Mahama administration to act decisively to prevent prolonged outages.

Nana Amoasi VII, Executive Director of IES, described Ghana's power sector as "fragile," citing systemic inefficiencies and poor planning as key factors. "It is not something that we were not expecting.

We knew very well that we had a fragile power sector stemming from systemic inefficiencies, including poor planning," he stated in an interview with Citi FM.

He stressed that the overreliance on natural gas, coupled with insufficient backup fuel reserves, has left the country vulnerable. "Almost all our plants can run on liquid fuel, but there is no adequate backup stock.
